Since inception, BitPesa has been at the forefront of bitcoin payment processing in Kenya. We have loved serving all our customers the last three years, despite many challenges faced every step of the way. We continue to experience increasing difficulty in ensuring we facilitate KES payments. It will be necessary to make changes to continue providing quality customer service as always. Today, BitPesa is making a few changes to how we serve customers who transact in Kenyan Shillings. Effective immediately:
– Verification of new users in Kenya will be paused.
– There will be a new minimum limit of $25K per transaction.
Update: Only business transactions will be processed.
BitPesa has grown globally but it began in Kenya. We are saddened not to be able to operate at full steam in what we consider our home country, given our success globally – especially with regulators. We look forward to the day the Kenyan government and the Central Bank will allow us to open back accounts and service our customers in KES.
We regret any trouble caused following this move and assure you that we are continually working hard to serve all customers in Kenya in the near future. We will communicate any further changes as necessary.
