Team BitPesa has been busy this summer – so busy we had to blog about it! So in case you were wondering what we’ve been up to, all in the spirit of building a service that’s truly revolutionary, here you go:
2015 Retreat
We have grown into quite a team in the past year. In mid-July, thirteen members of the BitPesa family travelled to Che Shale in Malindi (northern coast of Kenya) for the annual team offsite. From checking our emails on the nearly non-existent network to intense strategic meetings throughout the four days, it was a welcome mix of work and play. At the end of the meetings, we came up with a new slogan: Move With BitPesa, Move With Africa. (Way before Obama said “Africa is on the move!” at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit.)
Tunapanda Institute
As soon as we were back in Nairobi, we visited Kibera and interacted with the students at Tunapanda Institute about technology and Bitcoin. Never have we seen such a curious crowd before! We also took a walk down to the Kibera Town Centre to see firsthand the good work done with and for the community.
BitPesa Meets Facebook
Back at the office, we hosted a team of Product Managers from Facebook during their exploratory visit to Nairobi. We exchanged ideas and experiences with social media and payments over pizza. Thanks for visiting us, Facebook!
Barclays Africa Challenge
It’s not everyday that you hear people describe one of your own as “smart as a whip”. But at BitPesa, it comes as no surprise that someone would describe our CEO, Elizabeth Rossiello, that way. She explained how Bitcoin technology is enabling international payments. It was great to interact with the great minds at the event. Thank you, Barclays!
GES 2015 Kenya
Last but definitely not least, our CEO represented BitPesa at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi. Elizabeth spoke on a panel of fellow payment innovators during which she continued to showcase how Bitcoin and BitPesa are revolutionizing payments to and from Africa.
Many thanks to all of you who make this possible. Let’s move with Africa!
